About The Position
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and fiscal management of the company, working alongside the Artistic Director to maintain the company’s values and long-term plans. The position consists of the following responsibilities:
Operations & Fiscal Management
Planning and managing the company’s operating budgets and daily financial activities
Managing company accounting with r&b’s bookkeeper to facilitate monthly financial reconciliation, reports and an annual review engagement
Leading the company’s task management to ensure grant and project deadlines are met
Maintaining recurring company responsibilities, including bill payments, WorksafeBC, CRA remittance and annual society reporting
Scheduling board meetings and annual AGM, reporting to the board of directors quarterly regarding company operations
Acting as the point person for the company’s Extended Health Benefits program
Producing
Producing company productions and events
Writing and managing all contracts, policies and safe space practices
Working with the Artistic Director and lead artists to build project processes and budgets that will best serve each artist’s needs
Supporting production teams in accomplishing their artistic vision within budget
Leading the company’s social media and collaborating on the overall marketing strategy
Fund Development
Researching public and private sector grant opportunities in tandem with the Artistic Director and leading company grant-writing and reporting
Working with the Artistic Director to plan and run fundraising activities, as well as maintain donor relationships
Leadership
Facilitating the organization’s strategic planning with the Artistic Director
Attending networking and theatre events to build relationships with patrons and event partners
Supporting the Artistic Director’s programming decisions by providing thoughts and creative input
Participating in building committee work and community activities as a resident company of Progress Lab 1422
Mentoring the company’s 2025-26 intern, as well as other emerging artists, alongside the Artistic Director
Who We Are Looking For
A motivated self-starter who is able to confidently manage short-term tasks while maintaining the larger vision of the organization
A love of theatre and a strong relationship to the local and national performing arts community
Experience with project and/or organizational budgeting
Excellent collaboration and communication skills
A hunger to deepen connection with and serve IBPOC artists, both established and emerging
Strong grant writer and knowledge of available grants (government, foundation, etc.)
Experience with contract-writing, particularly through CAEA, ADC and UBCP/ACTRA agreements
Familiarity with Slack, Google Suite and Asana
Additional spoken/written languages are an asset
Driver’s license is an asset
Terms
Salary: $50,960 per annum
Position: Full-time
Hours: 35 hours per week, with some evenings/weekends for productions or networking events
Location: Progress Lab, 1422 William St (with the option to work hybrid from home and in-office)
Vacation: 14 days per year, as well as 2 weeks off during the winter holidays
Benefits: Extended health benefits through Equitable Insurance
Start date: Mid-January 2026 (negotiable)
