DREAM MACHINE

From the mind of Howard Dai comes a large-scale, immersive, interactive game show on dream-making and lottery.

Through the gesture and form of a lottery draw, Dream Machine seeks to explore the parallel between immigration and gambling: The process of immigration, the immigrant’s wish for their children, and the sacrifice they have to make. It is an immersive experience that will directly summon the audience’s dreams and aspirations that may be present in their life, or have long forgotten about. In it, Howard aims to curate a space where players meet each other through their dreams and uplift each other with their ambitions.

FLACA, GORDA Y CHAPARA

A new play by Artisic Director Pedro Chamale, based on the stories from his family and their journies that led them to Caanda. Using Spanish and English, Flaca, Gorda y Chapara mixes fantastical realism and the dream world of memory with the fall of the dictatorship in Guatemala resulting from the US-backed coup in the 1950s. Following three sisters forced to leave everything behind to ensure they always have each other, Flaca, Gorda y Chapara is an attempt to voice stories from a time known as Guatemala’s silent memory. This era of dictatorship in Guatemala left much of its population scared to speak about what was going on for fear of being disappeared. This overreaching fear bled into playwright Pedro Chamale’s family, as his aunts did not speak about their experience until long into his adulthood.

FGC is a play with love at its core, not focusing on the trauma that these sisters brought with them, but how their love for each other allowed them to survive in Canada.
